About Gothenburg Fringe

The Gothenburg Fringe is an explosion of creativity. Join us at unique and unexpected venues across the city for uncensored, cutting-edge performance art which stimulates, educates and entertains.

Since its creation in 2016, Gothenburg Fringe has become a community of artists and performing arts enthusiasts who have helped shape and grow our annual festival into what it is today, making it something to look forward to for the people of Gothenburg and an event for performers from around the world travel to participate in.

Just like every Fringe around the world, Gothenburg’s was born from passion and hard work; enthusiasm for development, for creating a platform and for seeing and realising new ideas and initiatives. Gothenburg Fringe will be home to 70 productions and 200 events at the festival in 2024, hosting them at 10 venues across the city. Gothenburg Fringe pays for venue rental and gives artists 100% of the ticket revenue.

To help foster this sense of community and offer more opportunities to enjoy Fringe arts in the city, we began our concept of a year-round programme in March 2022, aiming to run events on a seasonal basis, alongside the main festival in September, as long as the support is there and it is sustainable to do so.

Fringe Concept

The tale of Fringe, which began in 1947 in the margins of the Edinburgh International Festival and grew to a movement of almost 300 festivals around the world, is a fascinating one. Discover more about its origins and what Fringe means around the world by visiting the World Fringe website.
